Leafstar stalked silently through the dense forests of ThunderClan. She knew she shouldn't be among their territory, but there was something she had to attend to. She peered out of a thick bramble bush and checked her surroundings, making sure that no one was near.
She quickly lunged from her hiding place and toward the tall fence of Twoleg Place, lunging atop of it and letting out a long sigh of relief.
"Now to find an old friend of mine." She said, peering around at the similar surroundings of Kittypet life. Suddenly, Leafstar was startled by a familiar voice.
"Hello, Leafstar." It was Amberwind.

(Gladly, I've been getting a lot better at romance stories lately, so I can put my new skills into use ^^)
The scent of Leafstar filled Amberwinds nose. She seemed to have been in a hurry when she had said I was in charge until she returned. There was no suspicion to it, for he had every bit of faith in her, always. He had never lied about anything, in the reality.
So why was he following Leafstar out of the territory of Shadowclan and into the densly packed forests of Thunderclan. Thunderclan? Hmm, is this where... His thoughts trailed off as Leafstars scent became much more potent, and realized he was only a bush and a few pawsteps away from her, and realized she might have noticed him.
But this was the right moment. She was alone, not even in Shadowclan territory, Amberwind could ask the question he's always wanted to ask. When he had seen Leafstar as a small kit, he knew that someday she would have to be his. But he wondered about whether she was truly loyal to her other mate or not. He knew that bringing him up would only get him scorn.
But he was willing to do what his heart lurched him on to do. Even if it was against any kind of logical reasoning. "Hello Leafstar." He spoke in a quiet yet announcing meow as he stepped into the area, "What brings you to Twoleg territory? I just couldn't resist my curiosity as to find out. You seemed in a bit of a rush when you left."

Leafstar's eyes widened at the sight of her deputy. She quickly tried to think of an excuse but none came into mind.
"Greetings, Amberwind..." She said, letting out a long, calming sigh. Surely she could tell her deputy why she was truly here.
"What brings me here is... Well... My kits are here." She said, turning her gaze toward a blue house.
"My kits were born in the middle of leaf-bare, and I was able to keep it hidden. My kits were born unhealthy and very sick. It was the only option to send them to Twolegplace. Now all I do is watch my kits grow up from afar."
Leafstar turned her gaze back to the blue house and watched as three lively kits tumbled out the door. They were young, about a two moons old or so.
"Darkkit, Sunkit, and Redkit." She whispered, watching as her kits played happily with their twolegs.

(Wow I really dont know what I'm going to say XD)
Amberwind now felt embarrassed to even think of asking such a question that he had been thinking about.
"Thats... Very sweet of you. Brave too. To continue to care for kits even after their out of your parenting reach. Your old mate must be proud to have had you as a mate." He told her, trying to think how he could tell her how he felt without angering her. But he realized there was almost no way, and now he couldn't make the excuse of not knowing because now he knew.
"Well... I think I will head back to territory and leave you with your kits." He told her, feeling sick inside for even thinking of wanting to be a mate when she had had a well beloved former mate and kits that were still alive. He felt ashamed. Thoughts like these clouded his mind. But suddenly he heard pawsteps from behind.

(I think it might be cool if the footsteps were Shadepelt's. Like, he could talk Amberwind into going after Leafstar or something.)
Leafstar watched her kits and listened as Amberwind spoke. She listened as his voice went from strong to weak in a matter of minutes. She turned her gaze to him just as he was leaving.
Suddenly, she felt a aching in her heart. Ever since Leafstar had declared Amberwind her deputy there had been a strong connection between the two of them. Something she couldn't explain... Something she would hate to lose. But what exactly was this feeling?
"It's love, Leafstar. You love your deputy. And it's alright to. I know you will never forget me or our kits." Leafstar jolted to the sound of the familiar voice of her past mate.
"Shadepelt?" She whispered, her eyes darting in every direction.
"Yes?" His voice sounded from somewhere in the trees.
"Shadepelt, what are you saying?" She asked, padding deeper into the forest.
"I'm saying that you should find Amberwind before he loses hope."

(I hope my interpretation of what Shadepelt might say is all right)
The footsteps were of a different origin. A faded figure appeared when Amberwind reared around, almost choked up by a scent that was strangely familiar. "Shadepelt!" Amberwind exclaimed. The former mate of Leafstar looked up to me in his ghostly form that slightly sparkled in a kind of starlight, despite the fact it was daytime. "Amberwind." He said. Surely he isn't here because he's mad for my feelings towards Leafstar? Amberwind thought. Shadepelt shook his head, reading his thoughts. "Nothing of the kind. In fact, just the opposite." "What are you inquiring?" "I know you love Leafstar." I kept quiet. "Which is why I encourage it." I looked up at him in suprise. "But why? She loved you, and she was so loyal to you, as you were to her." "Yes, this is true. However, I had made her promise to do whatever makes her happy. Even after I was gone. And I want her to be happy like the days that she was by my side as my mate. I want you to be that spot that has been left open since I deceased, empty and littered with leaves from age. That spot is something that from time to time she will stare at. Of course this a metaphorical thing. But I thought it was important that you know that she has something for you too. All I am here for is to get the pieces together and make Leafstar as happy as she can do. It's the best of my ability, being in Starclan and all."
Amberwind was so confused, yet he understood. Leafstar was so loyal, yet she was sad for a long time after his death. All the pieces went together. And suddenly he realized that he might have a chance after all.
"Ah. I hear the sound of pawsteps now. I will leave you both to the talking. As for me, I will return to Starclan. Good luck. And if she accepts, follow these two requests: Protect her, and make her as happy as she was with me, if not happier."
"Yes Shadepelt." I said almost obediently. I heard the pawsteps come closer. When they stopped, in front of me stood Leafstar.

I did as my former mate had told me. I took off into the forest, padding quite quickly, yet stealthily. I squirmed in between two sharp thorn bushes where I had heard the slight mumbling of a conversation. Considering I was in ThunderClan I was praying to StarClan that it was Amberwind.
"Amberwind?" I quietly called, peering out slightly through the bushes. I saw his amber eyes (if they are amber... lol) staring into mine. I felt a jolt at the sight of him and I straightened myself up and concocted a serious look on my face.
"Amberwind, please. What were you going to tell me?" I asked, hoping he would say it this time.

Amberwind sighed, knowing that he would not be able to avoid telling the truth to her any longer.
"I don't know how to put it in words, for its oh so very hard to put into words, obviously. I don't want to bring it up, but do you remember your former mate, Shadepelt? Of course you do. Well, anyway, I thought about how loyal he was to you and how loyal you were to him... And i thought about what happened to you after he had passed. The long days of moping and always coming back to his grave. I realize that ever since then there was an empty spot in your heart, where something has died... Shadepelt still lives on in your memories. I guess what I'm trying to say is... I want to fill in that empty space. To be there when you need someone most. I want to be... Your mate."
(d**n i feel embarrased typing it >_< XD)

(lol)
Leafstar's eyes widened in shock but softened moments later and she was filled happiness. She put her head down a moment and let her mind wander. She thought about the question she was just asked, even though she didn't need to think bout it at all. She raised her head again and met Amberwind's eyes.
"Of course I will be your mate, Amberwind." She said. She nuzzled him happily and let out a relieving sigh.
